Step back in time by visiting the Ambleside Roman Fort, the stone-built relic reflecting the region’s intriguing historical lineage. End the day in the company of historic National Trust’s Townend, a jewel of traditional farming life, before returning to Brockhole on Windermere for a delightful dining experience at The Gaddum.

A trip to the lakes wouldn’t be complete without some time on the water; Windermere, Coniston and Ullswater, to name a few, provide hours of fun, with pubs, parking and facilities nearby to return to after a day of kayaking or paddleboarding (or you may even fancy a trip on the popular Steamers if you’re in a more leisurely mood).
